- What is UL 60601-1 and how
does it apply to equipment used
in healthcare settings?
The Underwriter’s
Laboratory (UL) publishes safety
standards
for a wide variety of products
pertaining to public safety.
UL 60601-1, Medical Electrical
Equipment, Part 1: General
Requirements for Safety is
a harmonized standard
with IEC-60601 and applies
to the safety of medical electrical
equipment. The Canadian Standards
Association (CSA) carries
the same safety requirements
in
the
C22.2 No. 60601-1 standard.
Although these standards primarily
concern
electrical safety, they also
contain requirements regarding
reliable operation connected
with general safety. Flo
Healthcare wireless mobile workstations
are tested by an independent
laboratory to meet the requirements
of UL 60601-1 for medical
safety.
Flo Healthcare holds certification
records with CSA (file no. 230691)
covering various power
supplies
and several mobile workstation
models. One certification
shows compliance to CSA 22.2
No.
601 and another certification
shows
compliance to the US Standard
UL 60601-1.
- Do
the Flo Healthcare wireless
mobile workstations pass the
current National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) 99 ESI standards?
Flo
Healthcare wireless mobile
workstations are tested
by an independent laboratory
to meet
the requirements of UL
60601-1
for medical safety. The
UL 60601-1 standard meets or
exceeds the
NFPA-99 standards in a
number
of requirements. In particular,
the mobile workstations
exceed the leakage current
requirements
(300 uA) and ground bond
resistance (0.5 Ohm) of the
NFPA-99 standard.
- Does Flo
Healthcare take steps necessary
to assure that
the wireless mobile workstations,
including components such as
hardware and software, are in
compliance with all applicable
federal and state laws, ordinances,
and regulatory statutes (including
the Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act of 1996,
HIPAA, and regulations of the
U.S. Food and Drug Administration,
FDA)?
Flo Healthcare supports compliance
documentation and reviews to
verify legal compliance.
- What are the recommended
cleaning procedures for Flo wireless
mobile workstations?
The main writing surface and
other coated metal surfaces may
be cleaned with hospital-approved
sani-wipes or disinfectants.
Flo Healthcare sells a disinfectant
spray cleaner that is safe for
all exterior surfaces of the
workstation. The non-latex skin
that covers the keyboard may
be periodically cleaned with
similar disinfectants, but should
be replaced when it becomes worn
or damaged.
- How long does it take to
recharge a battery on the Flo
wireless mobile workstations?
MPS-3111 SLA Power Supply: If
the power supply has been completely
discharged, the charging cycle
to return the battery to full
capacity is about six (6) hours.
However, the battery will achieve
95 percent capacity in about
four (4) hours.
MPS-4002
NiMH Power Supply: If
the power supply has been completely
discharged, the charging cycle
to return the battery to full
capacity is about twelve (12)
hours.
MPE-7800 NiMH
Power Supply: If
the power supply has been completely
discharged, the charging cycle
to return the battery to full
capacity is about seven (7) hours.
However, the battery will achieve
95 percent capacity in about
four (4) hours.
- I am purchasing a Flo wireless
mobile workstation with a notebook,
or laptop, configuration. Can
I remove the laptop each day
for at-home use or for quick
service?
Recognizing each of our customers
has different needs, Flo Healthcare
works with each hospital to design
solutions that optimize the point-of-care
experience. Our customers have
overwhelmingly required Flo wireless
mobile workstations to be rugged
and incorporate loss prevention
measures – especially for
notebook PCs. An integrated solution
that allows easy access and removal
of the laptop on a routine basis
does not meet most customer-driven
criteria. Specific solutions
that do require easy removal
can be provided on a custom basis.
- We
are planning to deploy small
form-factor PC’s
on the desktop. Can you integrate
these small form-factor PCs on
the Flo wireless mobile workstations
as well?
A small form-factor PC typically
requires 200+ Watts of power.
This level of power is impractical
in a mobile application and cannot
be sustained for any meaningful
time period. Flo Healthcare generally
requires PC technologies that
operate between 40 to 50 Watts.
Many of the current notebooks
on the market are designed for
maximum power efficiency in this
range. By using the latest Intel® mobile
processors, these notebooks have
similar computing power in more
power efficient designs.
- My hospital
has elected to use Flo Healthcare’s
Customer Furnished Equipment
(CFE) purchase option. How does
the CFE option work, and why
do I have to ship my PCs to Atlanta?
The CFE purchase option allows
the hospital to leverage its
buying power with the major technology
vendors. Flo Healthcare limits
the CFE choices to vendors and
models that have been tested
and verified to meet our operational
and safety requirements. For
an approved vendor-model PC,
the hospital may select a wide
variety of specifications, such
as processor speed, hard drive
size, RAM size, cache size, and
operating system. The selected
configuration PCs are then shipped
to the Flo Healthcare manufacturing
facility in Atlanta, Ga., for
integration and final QA. This
assures quality and reliability
in the full mobile workstation
final assembly.
Since shipment of the Flo wireless
mobile workstations are subject
to receipt of the CFE, please
send all CFE three weeks prior
your requested delivery date.
Delivery dates specified on Purchase
Orders cannot be guaranteed for
the CFE purchase option.
System imaging services are available
at a nominal fee. Simply make
arrangements to send your custom
image for the PC to Flo Healthcare,
and then Flo will burn the image
to each unit during integration – the
mobile workstations will arrive
on-site, ready for deployment.
- What are the hours of coverage
for customer service support?
Do all customers share the customer
service support staff or is there
a dedicated support team option?
Standard service hours are 8
am to 5 pm EST, Monday - Friday.
Flo Healthcare assigns staff
to specific customers as required.
For large or complex deployments,
Flo Healthcare typically assigns
a full-time project coordinator
until the deployment is completed.
- If my Flo wireless mobile
workstation is still under warranty
and develops a problem, do I
need to send the whole unit back
to Atlanta for service?
Flo Healthcare mobile workstations
are designed so that individual
components can be removed and
replaced without sending the
whole unit back to the factory.
Customer Service Specialists
from Flo Healthcare are trained
to troubleshoot and help isolate
issues to specific components.
These components can be returned
to the factory for warranty repair
under the Return Materials Authorization
(RMA) program.
- What is the difference
between product maintenance and
a warranty repair?
Flo Healthcare warrants that
the cart and integrated components
purchased from Flo Healthcare
are free from material defects
in materials and workmanship
for the warranty term. Preventative
maintenance is an on-going program,
generally administrated by the
customer, to optimize the utility
of the Flo workstations through
periodic inspections, replacement
of wear and tear items, and service
for the serviceable items. Wear
and tear items, or items that
fall into a state of disrepair
through abuse or neglect are
not covered in the standard Flo
Healthcare product warranty.
